How to Decorate for Valentine's Day

"It's a Hallmark holiday." "I love you everyday, we don't need to celebrate it on one day." Does you husband say this too? Maybe it's the male aversion to pink hearts and mushy sentiments. Maybe there is some truth behind the marketing incentives in a holiday that requires cards, candy, and flowers. Regardless, after a hectic holiday season, cold gloomy weather, and more hours of darkness, we feel ready to embrace something that feels uplifting and cheery. As someone who sells home decor for a living, my biggest tip for Valentine's Day Decorating may surprise you. How should you decorate for Valentine's Day? You shouldn't.

Think about it. You probably just packed up the Christmas tree and put away all of your reindeers and that Elf (How good does it feel to de-shelf that smirking little sh*t?). Give yourself a break! Instead of decorating for the shortest month of the year, find functional decorations that can live in your house year-round or at least for the whole Spring season.

Focus on Florals

Instead of hearts and Cupid, ground your design in fresh (or faux) florals.  Pink peonies or cottage roses add a romantic touch that screams Spring is here. Our popular European Silk Peonies are lifelike and feminine.  They make the perfect centerpiece on a console or dining table.

Snuggly Blankets Meant for Sharing

Some of the best evenings aren't out a fancy restaurant or an expensive date night out. If you're a homebody or don't want to fight the Valentine's Day crowds, then snuggle up with a glass of wine (or two or three), your favorite finger foods, and a good movie. On a cold winter night, there is nothing better than curling up under a warm, cozy throw blanket. Our Paige Pompom Throw Blanket is our most luxurious and best-selling throw blanket. It is a true "Treat Yourself" throw. Share it with your sweetheart or your Galentine's Day Galpal.

Home Sweet Home

Give your front door some love. The easiest update for Valentine's Day and Spring is a modern wreath. Peach, pink, and magenta flowers are sure to put a smile on your face on a dreary day.

Always Kiss Goodnight

Instead of a paper card, add a sentiment to your bed to be enjoyed year round. Chic script on a neutral background compliment any bedding color or print. Our Better Together Pillow Cover is perfect for your other half.

Spark a Flame

If you're looking for longterm use, go for a Doughbowl candle.  After the wax has melted the bowl can be used decoratively for years to come. Our Sweet Heart Dough Bowl Soy Wax Candle comes in an intoxicating Volcano scent with notes of exotic fruits and foliage sure to set the mood
